A police sergeant that leaped to the assistance of a colleague that got attacked by a knife attacker received the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a traffic accident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman knifed," the constable could be heard saying over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera recording shared by the police department showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood covering head, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a weapon extended.

He ran into the officer who stumbled and fell to the ground, before Sgt Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being multiple times hit with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a open target, concluding the struggle to an end.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide something on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple lacerations to his throat and additional injuries to his arms and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster received slash wounds.

Authorities stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stop his fellow officer's hemorrhaging before medical personnel came.

The new honor comes after the trio of policemen received departmental Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional officer association in early 2024.

They additionally received a North West Courage Honor in summer 2024.
